Live Like You Were Dying
“Live like you were Dying” by Tim McGraw is one of my all-time favorite songs. It touches my heart and soul on such a deep level. The song refers to a young man who has recently received the news that his life here on earth may be ending soon. It speaks about how he went skydiving, climbed the Rocky Mountains, offered forgiveness where he refused to over the years and began focusing on loving bigger and better than ever.
The lyrics are about fully living your life, following your dreams, and enjoying every single moment. It’s about honoring and celebrating what’s important to you by making it a priority and choosing it no matter what.
This is full blown self-love.
Sadly, most of us aren’t fully living our lives based in what our Soul craves. Instead our choices are based in fear. We don’t take that chance. We don’t pick up the phone because we are afraid of rejection. We don’t forgive or let our guard down to let people in because we don’t want to get hurt again. We don’t start that business because we are afraid of failing or being laughed at. We don’t quit the job we hate because we believe there is no other option. We don’t take that trip because we can’t lose the job we hate. The list goes on and on.
We put off living until tomorrow, until someday in the future when we feel everything is in place.
What if there wasn’t another tomorrow to achieve all you wanted? Would you make different choices?
Life is made up of moments. Each of those moments create our legacy. It’s the mark we leave on this earth. It’s the memory we leave for our loved ones when our time is up; the footprint saying we were here.
How are you living your life right now? Are you embracing it or are you pushing it away and telling yourself you will do it later?
Are you willing to take a risk and begin to fully live your life and embrace the time you have here on this amazing planet? Are you willing to answer your Soul’s calling?
Here are a few simple journal questions to help you discover what you could do differently and begin to live fully.
1) What don’t you like in your life? Where are you struggling? In order to fully live you have to be able to identify all the places where you are not honoring and celebrating you. That means getting really honest with yourself and clear on what you feel isn’t working for you.
2) What does your soul crave? What does it yearn to experience? This is the fun part. You get to imagine anything. The sky is the limit. Do you dream of hopping on a plane and spending a week in another country? Do you long to do mission work in the world? Have you desired to go back to school and get a degree? Launching a new invention or brand? What about curling up for an entire day with your lover?
3) What is stopping you? What excuses do you tell yourself? What resources do you feel are not available and what can you do to change that? This brings in awareness and helps you get really clear on where you aren’t embracing your life fully.
